Entegris Commissions Industry Research Study; The Ohio State University To Begin Study This Summer

CHASKA, Minn., Apr 25, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Entegris, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTG) announced today that it has commissioned The Ohio State University (OSU) to conduct a major research study through OSU's Research Foundation that will focus on the optimization of materials surface cleaning relevant to multiple industries.

The study will examine biofilm and product residual removal on stainless steel and fluoropolymer materials. Clean-In-Place (CIP) equipment that is widely used in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and food industries today will be used in the study. With this study advancing the understanding of biofilm formation and removal rates, along with product residual removal, the data from the study should allow industry to optimize process efficiencies and reduce costs through increased production up-time, decreased effluents and lower water and chemical usage.

"This study is a clear example of Entegris' commitment to grow its leadership in the life sciences realm by supporting critical research that should further advance Clean-In-Place (CIP) technology benefiting multiple global industries in the future," said Scott Sturm, vice president for life sciences marketing for Entegris. "We believe The Ohio State University's leadership in technological research and its experience specific to CIP makes it an ideal institution to carry on this study."

The study is unique from previous laboratory studies because it will be conducted on various materials and surface conditions like those used for commercial practices- producing quantifiable results that will be directly transferable to the biotech, pharmaceutical and food service industries that use this technology.

Entegris' sponsorship of the OSU research study includes a $300,000 contribution and $125,000 in donated Clean-In-Place equipment and technology. The company is recognized across industry lines - from semiconductors and life sciences, to fuel cells and data storage - for its leadership and expertise in materials science and advanced research and technology.
