Entegris, Japanese Competitor Sign Patent License Agreement; Agreement Calls For Royalties To Be Paid To Entegris

CHASKA, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 27, 2005--Entegris, Inc., (Nasdaq:ENTG) announced today that the company signed a license patent agreement last week covering its 300 mm wafer carriers with one of its three major Japanese competitors in the wafer carrier market. The agreement includes royalty payments to Entegris for past and future shipments of 300 mm wafer carriers by the competitor. Entegris officials say this step further affirms the company's right and responsibility to safeguard its intellectual property. (The two companies signed a letter of intent on this matter that was announced by Entegris December 6, 2004, news release - you may view this release at: http://www.entegris.com/pressroom/PR/resources/wi_284828974.html)

"Entegris protects its intellectual property rights. Licensing our 300 mm front opening wafer carrier technology provides customers the best access to this industry leading technology, while Entegris continues to invest in the next generation technology," said Patrick McKinney, Entegris senior vice president of worldwide sales. "We've invested heavily in our state-of-the-industry wafer carrier technology, and we will license our technology in a fair and non-discriminatory manner to all our competitors in accordance with SEMI standards. We believe this agreement is a sound and responsible framework to build upon for the future."

Entegris has earned approval for 184 USA patents and 286 foreign patents on its advanced technology discoveries. While Entegris produced several royalty-generating patent licenses in the past, this is the first one on its 300 mm FOUP and FOSB wafer carrier portfolio.
